July and August can bring blazing sunshine and super high temperatures to Buffalo. It’s great weather for a trip to the lake or a backyard bar-b-que, but what many car owners do not know is that summer conditions can be just as harsh on a vehicle as winter conditions.

1. Consider your coolant - Consider testing your coolant in the scorching summer months.  If levels are low, the more heat that your vehicle will have to endure, so prevent additional wear and tear by making sure your coolant is at a healthy level!  Have it checked at the time of your oil change.

2. Beware of your battery - Whether it’s surprising or not, Buffalo is the sunniest city in the northeast in terms of days of full sun!  Heat and excessive sun can drain battery resources much faster than in cooler weather. Consider covered or shaded parking spaces when available, and visit our service team if you have battery concerns.

3. Act upon A/C issues - Prevent yourself from overheating by taking care of A/C issues early.  If you don’t feel your air cooling after a few minutes of driving, rely on Certified Technicians to check your system.

4. Watch your washer fluid and batten down your blades - You never know when a thunderstorm may arise in the late summer months, but you can take a safe bet that your windshield will get “buggy” when you hit the highway.  To make sure your sight is unimpeded as you drive, make sure to refill washer fluid and replace your wiper blades when they are worn.
